Our Story
“A World of Arts Suitable for Every Lifestyle”™.
Pixkala, located at the iconic Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal, began its journey in 2019 under the name “Thang Ku Artists.” This art studio and gallery quickly became a vibrant hub for creativity, showcasing a rich array of art forms. However, like many, we faced the unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to our temporary closure.
In 2023, we re-emerged with renewed energy and a new identity: Pixkala (पिक्सकला). The name “Pixkala” reflects our deep connection to both the digital and traditional art worlds. “Pix” is inspired by the pixel, the building block of digital imagery, and the legendary Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, with the “Pi” in our name representing the initial letters of his name. “Kala,” derived from the Nepali word for fine arts, “Lalitkala,” symbolizes our commitment to preserving and promoting artistic traditions. Together, Pixkala represents a fusion of English and Nepali language and culture, symbolizing a bridge between past and present, local and global.
